Productive Mindset: How to Live The Integrated Life

Have you ever felt as though you should be getting more from life?

Do you ever feel tired, stressed out, or overworked?

Has your health and vitality suffered? Do you seem to be completely unable to get afloat? Perhaps you feel like you’re just treading water. All this can eventually start to get you down. This is not what we were promised. Perhaps you always pictured that your life would be different. Many of us assumed we would someday make a lot of money.

Many of us assume that we should have much more energy than we do. And we see people around us who seem to have the things that we want to achieve. We all know people who are polished, who are confident, who look attractive. We all know people who seem to have it all. So why can’t we have that? Why is life being so unfair to us?
Well, if you have read any of the other guides so far then you know that this is where you are going wrong to start with.

It’s blaming your circumstances and it’s blaming other people. You have everything you need to live a truly incredible life right now. All that is missing is the right mindset to go about achieving it. You know what’s even more likely? You’re already living a truly amazing life. You already have everything that anyone could ever ask for… but you just don’t appreciate it.

As we’ve learned over this series, your happiness and your accomplishments stem from you. And more than that, they stem from your mindset and the way that you view yourself and your life. They stem from having the drive to go out and get the things you feel you deserve. And from knowing how you are going to go about doing that. In this final guide, you’re going to learn how to make some simple changes.

You’re going to learn how to start fortifying yourself against challenge. You’re going to learn to start appreciating all the things you already have. And you’re going to learn to master your life so that you can decide precisely what kind of person you want to be. Precisely what you are going to achieve.

What Are Your Priorities?

The first thing you need to do is to start reassessing some of your priorities. Many of us complain that we aren’t healthier, happier or richer, but we never do anything about it. That’s because despite what we’re saying  we aren’t giving those aspects of our lives priority. Let’s break down your current routine shall we and see if we can assess the problem?

You’re telling people you want to have six pack abs. you’re telling people you want to be a successful author or a successful business owner. You tell people that your family means everything to you. Okay then. So, if that’s true, those are the things you should be spending the majority of your time on right?

Instead, what you will probably find is that your lifestyle looks something more like this:

Sleep: 6-7 Hours

Work: 8-9 Hours

Commuting: 1-2 Hours

Lunch Break: 30 Minutes

Everything else: ~5 Hours

And in those roughly five hours, you need to fit in waking up, getting ready for the day, washing dishes, doing the laundry, cooking. Now ask me again why you don’t have the lifestyle you want? You claim that your goals and dreams are your top priority and yet you don’t live a life that reflects that in the slightest. This reminds me very much of the problem with modern politics.

So often, we are told by our political leaders just how much money they have managed to save. They’ll tell us how they have increased the value of the dollar. They’ll boast that they’re paying off the deficit. But is this how we should really be judging their success? How about much more important metrics like quality of life? Or happiness?

You’re doing the same thing in your own life. You’re pouring 90% of your effort into your work and coming away completely exhausted. Of course everything else suffers.

How it Got This Way

Have you ever asked how things got this way?

The answer, while it might not be very pleasant, ultimately comes down to fear and indoctrination. It’s fear because we are driven so often by a fear of our partners leaving us. By a fear of debt. By a fear of not being able to put a deposit on a house. Of being single in our 40s and missing the boat to have children. This means that you are motivated by the stick rather than the carrot.

You are focused on running away from all the things you don’t want, rather than toward all the things you do want. And this really isn’t helped by the media and by the way we’re brought up. This is where the whole ‘indoctrination’ part comes in. I’m not a conspiracy theorist. I’m not here to tell you that this is a deliberate move on the part of the government or any such thing. BUT it is nevertheless the way most of us are brought up. We are raised to believe that we are born into some kind of debt.

That we owe this debt to society. That hard graft and work is something to be proud of. Meanwhile, we are taught to want all kinds of things that are just out of our grasp. These include widescreen TVs, lavish properties, expensive looking cars and more. We work toward these things, we work because we’re afraid of debt, and we work because it is what society expects of us. But let me ask you this: is there really any inherent value in work itself? Working toward a good cause is of course a good thing.

Working to support your family is likewise to be applauded. But those people who proudly state that they’ve ‘never missed a day of work!’ or who retire in their 80s, or who talk in a generally proud fashion about the work they did stacking palettes. It’s nice they’re proud. Really it is. But here’s the sad part: if they didn’t come in, the world would keep on ticking on without them. And even if it didn’t, the worst case scenario is that someone would get a palette late.

Meanwhile, wouldn’t it have been much better if they had looked after their health? If they had spent more time with their family? If they had pursued a passion and written a beautiful piece of music? Work in itself should be a means to an end and certainly not a means in itself. Work only has value as long as the end product has value. And even then, it’s not worth sacrificing every other aspect of your life for.

Lifestyle Design

The simple cognitive shift I want you to make here then is that you are not living to work but working to live. It’s a cliché I know, but if you actually follow that advice through to its logical conclusion, then you find yourself with something akin to lifestyle design. Lifestyle design is a way of life that simply flips traditional notions of work on their head and instead focuses on building a lifestyle you can be happy with.

You decide what it is you want to accomplish, who you want to be and then you change your career and other factors in order to fit around that lifestyle. For many people, this will mean becoming a digital nomad. Thanks to modern technology, there is no need for us to work from a stuffy office or make a long journey into work. Instead, we can simply load up the computer and work from home.

This affords an amazing amount of freedom, allowing you to work from wherever you like and whenever you like. Many people will take advantage of this by travelling the world with just a laptop and working from coffee shops. That’s lifestyle design and that’s being a ‘digital nomad’.But it can also mean something much smaller. It means looking at the promotion that comes with so much extra responsibility and it means asking yourself if it’s worth it.

Wouldn’t it be much better to spend more time with your family and keep the job you’ve got? Alternatively, maybe you take on that job but you negotiate having one day off so that you get a whole day to yourself. Or perhaps you take on a part-time job and a side-income instead. Maybe you conclude that in order to follow your passions, the best option is to become a garbage collector so that you can be free by 2pm in the afternoon. Need more money? Then get a smaller house!

It can even mean that you choose to move home somewhere that you’ll be nearer to work so that you have a shorter commute. A shorter commute means 30 minutes extra to yourself per day. Maybe you decide to pay for a cleaner so that you can have a beautiful home! There are so many variables here that you can play around with that you don’t need to take the most obvious route through your life.  You don’t have to follow the predetermined path that has been set out for you by society and you don’t need to keep making life harder and harder.

Some More Changes

Choosing to design your own lifestyle and take back control is one way to start getting what you want from life. But there are a few others too that will help you with this. One cognitive shift is to know your worth, to stand your ground and lose the fear. Another cognitive shift is to recognize that time and money are both interchangeable. This latter point means that if you are getting paid more but you are also working longer hours then you aren’t really getting a pay rise at all.

The only way this would count as a pay rise is if you got paid more for working the same hours. So, if you’re being offered profession up the ladder but it involves staying later at work, there is an obvious answer: you’ll just take the pay rise, thanks! This is where knowing your worth comes in. You see, many of us are afraid to ask for more money, or are afraid to increase our rates. We think if we do that, we’ll lose work and end up homeless. Again: lose the fear. This doesn’t happen.

If you are providing a good service to someone, or if you’re a good employee, then you can afford to charge more.
Think about how much they’re earning thanks to you and how much they’d lose if you stopped working for them.
You have the right to charge more. And not only that, but it is common for wages to go up regardless of responsibilities. So, if you feel you need more money then don’t be afraid to ask for it. And if they refuse? Then you look elsewhere for a new employer or new clients.

As Tim Ferriss says: ask for forgiveness, not permission.

Ultimately, you are worth what you think you are worth. If you put a price on your head that is too low, then you can work incredibly hard for no reward. Keep looking. And keep learning.  And here’s one more thing: don’t wait. Don’t wait for life to get better. Don’t wait until you’re old and retired. Because life always throws you curveballs and the stars never align. The only way you can live a better life is to start right NOW. And don’t tell me you’re too old: you’re never too old to be the person you always wanted to be.

So if you’ve been putting off going travelling because of fear, because of opportunity and because you worry that life won’t be there for you when you get back it is time to buck up your ideas. Take charge and go now. This is the only way you’ll ever go. Work will be there when you get back. And if it isn’t? At least you’ve done something truly memorable and worthwhile. What could be more valuable?

It Starts With Everything

Hopefully, some of these tips will help you to start getting more from your life simply by changing your priorities and going after the things you want.

So where do you start?

The answer is with everything.

What I mean by this, is that if you want to be healthier and happier and to live a generally better life, then you need to change everything all at once. We’ve discussed that your ability to change your life starts in the mind. But have you considered what affects your mind?

The mind has a limited amount of energy. Throughout these guides, I’ve asked a lot from you: to take more responsibility, to lose your fear, to practice discipline, to stay motivated. All those things take energy. And if you’ve only got 5 hours outside of work to be productive in, then you’re going to struggle. You’ll struggle even more if you’re highly stressed and if you’re burned out.

(Read more about 12 stages of Burn-out )

So as you start to put the emphasis a bit more back onto you. As you start to focus on your goals and on the things that make you happy, you can also look at how you can ensure you are charged and able to get the very most out of life. It starts with simple things: things like getting enough sleep, things like going out in the sun occasionally and maybe things like taking vitamin supplements.

Later it goes on to more profound matters: learning to meditate. Finding a passion. Surrounding yourself with the right people. Every aspect of your health and your lifestyle will feed back into the way you feel and what you can accomplish. You need to start small and build up the energy you want. Right now you might feel trapped by your circumstances, so find just that small crack of light.

That might mean getting a little more energy by taking a supplement in the morning. But if that gives you enough fuel to consider implementing systems to keep your home tidier and that gives you the mental space to start challenging your current work-life balance, remember work life balance is a myth, as when you are trying to juggle work and life  You can never balance it – Resulting into regret, guilt and resentment.

The ultimate truth is THE INTEGRATED LIFE, which leads to Sense of fulfilment, Happiness and Gratitude.

… then it will all be worth it.

And Finally

And finally? Learn to appreciate what you have right now.

!! Gratitude !!

Because this is the ultimate key to happiness. The truth is that if you keep dreaming of that widescreen TV then you won’t be able to escape the hedonistic treadmill. You’ll stay in the fight or flight mode, you’ll keep pushing and fighting. And looking forward to a holiday isn’t much better. Looking forward to quitting your job isn’t that much better either.

Do it now. And meanwhile, learn to focus on what’s already just right in your life. If you stop and smell the roses, if you practice a ‘gratitude’ you’ll realize you’ve probably already accomplished a whole lot. And you’ll find that you already have many happy moments in your daily life. Live in those moments.

The Power of "No"

The Art of Saying NO

On Thursday Afternoon, I received a call from a long-awaited client, asking me to plan a meeting on Saturday at 11 am. It was the client my team had been chasing for a long time for a discussion, but due to his travel schedule unable to fix a date. We were planning to meet him and discuss our proposal for his team and factory to establish Autonomous work culture and improve productivity.

The conversation goes like this

Client: “Hey Sagar, how are you? I appreciate your patience; due to my hectic travel schedule, I could not give you the time for discussion. I am back in India and will be happy to meet you Saturday at 11 am at my office.”

On other days, these words would make me happier, but they made me bit my lip that day. I was catching for this client for two months, waiting for this day. But at this time, I had planned a much-needed family trip to the South, and I had to board the flight the day after tomorrow, Saturday, at 10.30 am. I was in a fix while my client was waiting for my answer.

I quickly ran through all the possibilities in my mind and politely but firmly answered him.

Me: “I appreciate your appointment, but I’ve already committed to my family for a vacation, and I have a flight to catch the day after tomorrow at 10.30 am. If it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle, please reschedule this meeting for tomorrow, which is Friday instead of Saturday.

The older me might’ve cancelled the trip or delayed my travel plan and let the family carry on, but the newer me dealt with this situation differently.

The Integrated Life needs you to align the elements to achieve a sense of fulfilment; one of them is your focused goals.

I was ready to face the consequences. Would you believe what happened?

The client answered, ‘I appreciate your honesty and prior commitment to your family. I understand keeping up the promises as well. Let me check my schedule tomorrow and get back to you. He called back after an hour and rescheduled it a day earlier. I was elated.

Do you also face such situations?

What’d you do if you were in my place?

Would you also deal with this problem in the same way?

I was not the same earlier. For the past few years, I have experienced these elements to live The Integrated Life, which has helped me to understand my priorities. That allows me to take ownership of my decisions or choices and live a life without any regrets or guilt.

During my earlier days when I was working in a corporate and later in a manufacturing firm, by nature, I was so submissive that I used to say Yes to everything that came my way.

Why? Even I reflect sometimes

We often deliver answers in this automatic response as our brains are wired in that way or muscle memory.

Some examples stating the above point are:

A student agrees to give notes to his friend, who doesn’t return them until the exam day. It hinders his study for that test and affects his score.

A corporate employee dug deep into work and said yes to his boss for delivering a project at a close deadline but couldn’t complete it. He ruins his impression and paves the way for questioning his further work commitments.

A housewife says yes to in-laws even when she runs out of time for her schedule. She completes the work but gets late for further proceedings. In the process, she makes way for resentment from family members, compromising health and resulting in a dual loss at both ends.

What did they gain by saying yes when they should’ve said No?

Loss of more important things like health, reputation or losing the otherwise favoured result, and trust from the people they said Yes.

They tried to be nice to them by not upsetting them by saying – Yes, but it turned the other way round. These situations prove the fact that we are people pleasers.

My younger son is just five years old, and when asked by an elder if he would like to go with him to a movie, he refused with a cute face and said I wish to play with my friends right now. It was so simple, yet it taught me how important it is to say NO.

You wouldn’t think much before saying a No when you were a child. Children do things according to their moods. But as they grow up, they learn the consequences of saying No. They may hamper their responses since they find out – it is not a good practice to disobey parents as they might be punished or displease them.

From that time onwards, you develop a mindset of prioritising others over yourself and an inability to say No.

You feel saying Yes is more manageable than no at any given time. It is way more accessible as we humans get manipulated in so many ways by our surroundings.

What are the factors that make us say yes?

You tend to agree to people or circumstances in given conditions:

  • Wish to remain in good books: You are a people pleaser and prefer self-neglect rather than displeasing others.
  • Confidence in handling multiple things: You are confident you can juggle numerous things at a time, and you do not mind being overburdened or taking additional stress in showing your ability to handle multiple subjects.

  • Avoiding a guilt trip: You feel bad over refusing someone a favour and try to avoid that guilt trip at the cost of your happiness.

  • Weighing people’s priorities over self: You are a very considerate and understanding person toward others and cannot refuse anyone.

  • Giving in to persuasive people: You tend to give in to people who are more influential and convince you into something they desire.

  • Saying a temporary yes to get out of it later: You evade conflicts and agree at that moment, thinking to dodge off later.

  • Feel it’d disrespect the person: You grade that person too much and think denial would be disrespectful.

  • Worry about missing better opportunities: You tend to imply that refusing something to do at present would shut down your path for better opportunities in the future.

Saying yes is more straightforward but does unpredictable harm to your productivity levels. It disturbs the elements of your life, giving you the feeling of regret.

It takes courage, practice, patience and perseverance to cultivate the art of saying No. The importance of saying No is precisely what renowned leaders try to explain in their quotes.

Warren Buffet says – Successful people say no more than they say yes.

Whereas Paulo Coelho says – When you say Yes to others, make sure you are not saying no to yourself.

Both stress your well-being and advancement in your paths by learning the art of saying No and opening doors to your future progress.

I was once stuck between choosing my speaking engagement offer on the same date clashing with my son’s stage show in the school I promised him to attend long ago.

It was a tough decision, and it took a lot of effort to talk to the client, offer them an alternative date, and recommend a fellow speaker just in case they cannot reschedule.

To my surprise, they chose the recommended fellow speaker and signed me up for the next event in advance for the subsequent convection at their organisation. I attended my son’s stage show as promised, keeping my professional commitment and client happy.

Isn’t our family a priority? We live We Earn to give them comfort to make their lives better.

What’d you’ve done if you were in my place? Wouldn’t you, too, make efforts to create an Integrated Life, rescheduling things or refusing work at a prior commitment already made with family?

I’m sure you, too, would reap the benefits a simple no can bring about.

Saying NO in the right way is an exciting thing:

  • It can reduce stress: You tend to be more stress-free when you say no to unwanted or excess things or people. You are not easily overwhelmed by people or situations, whether professional, social or personal. It paves the way for your mental well-being.
  • It can define boundaries: When you say- No, you decide on your deliverables. People become aware of what they can accept of you, and gradually with such a defined set of boundaries, people will stop asking you beyond that.
  • It reduces bitterness: When you say yes to people you wanted to say no to, you end up hating that person. You are more resentful towards that person in further meetings as you forcibly had to agree then. Saying no reduces this bitterness when you never have to face this situation.
  • You become less remorseful: You never regret anything when you say No because you are left with choices of things you want to do. You are never resentful toward anything when you learn the art of saying No.
  • You hold the reigns of your life: You can easily focus on the essential things when you say no to unimportant things. That way, you learn to prioritise what’s vital for you and what’s not. You tend to balance out something you feel is essential. Some include acquiring new skills for your career, spending time with family or self-care for healthy well-being.

When there are so many benefits to saying no, why should you fall into the trap of saying yes?

Why not learn the tactics to say no and smoothen life instead of complicating it?

At this point, you are bound to worry about the outcome if you say no, especially if you are new to a place.

You’d be concerned about making a wrong impression with your no. I understand your distress, and in the video below, I’ve shared an example of a situation between a newly hired employee and his boss.

With the help of this video, you’ll get an idea of how to say no subtly and turn the ball in your court.

Sagar Amlani in conversation with Shantanu at ICFAI

Saying no doesn’t mean you show arrogance or attitude and make it sound not polite.

Your behaviour should not indicate that you are taking pride in saying NO, but you won’t be able to do it then. Saying NO should not become your habit to avoid taking responsibility. It’s a costly attitude that you should use only when there is a genuine need to focus on your goals and priorities in life.

You needn’t be sorry as you are not doing something wrong, choosing yourself over others. But it should be subtle, reasonable, logical, and polite but firm NO.

In the book The Key, I have given some actionable tips for learning the art of saying NO.

The Results are phenomenal, as they will help you develop a Productive Mindset to lead an Integrated Life full of a sense of fulfilment, happiness and gratitude.

Do share your experiences with me at sagar@sagaramlani.com

This listicle shows how saying No makes you more productive.

By saying no, you are-

  • More confident in your deliverables, and people respect you: When you say no to other things, you focus wholeheartedly on what you are working on and deliver it with optimum results. The results are always fantastic, and you gain respect for your work in the long run. When you commit to something you wish to, you have results more than expected as you become more productive.
  • More light-headed: You stop taking things personally. This you acquire over time as you constantly remind yourself of the priorities you set and their importance. Gradually, people’s opinions of you won’t stir you as their thoughts or sayings won’t move you. You know your priorities and self-worth and have a vision of your life. When you value yourself, you believe in your abilities and your productivity increases. Every other thing becomes futile in front of these priorities for you.

Conclusion:

By saying Yes, you fall into the trap of self-destruction, hindering your mindset and impacting your abilities. By cultivating a habit of Saying No, you focus on the crucial things that require your time and attention, and you scale in every aspect. Make sure your No doesn’t sound rude but is logical and direct.

The sure-shot way to develop a Productive mindset is learning the art of saying No. This art leads you on a path to an integrated life.

To learn in-depth about the productivity mindset and the subtle art of saying No, refer to the book The Key.

A veterinarian, Dr Peter had been called to examine a 10yr old Irish Wolfhound named Tuffy. The dog’s owners, Rohit, his wife Asha, and their little boy Khanjan, were all very attached to Tuffy, and they were hoping for a miracle.

Dr Peter examined Tuffy and found he was dying of cancer. He told the family we couldn’t do anything for Tuffy, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As they decided, Rohit and Asha told Dr Peter they thought it would be good for six-year-old Khanjan to observe the procedure. They felt as though Khanjan might learn something from the experience.

The next day, Dr Peter felt a familiar catch in his throat as Tuffy‘s family surrounded him.

But the 6-year-old Khanjan seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that Dr Peter wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Tuffy slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Tuffy’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Tuffy’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that dogs’ lives are shorter than human lives.

Khanjan, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ”I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned all of us.

Never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way we try and live.

He said, ”People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The six-year-old continued,

”Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay for as long as we do.”

  • Live simply.
  • Love generously.
  • Care deeply.
  • Speak kindly.

If a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

  • When your loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
  • Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
  • Take naps.
  • Stretch before rising.
  • Run, romp, and play daily.
  • Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
  • On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
  • On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
  • When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
  • Be faithful.
  • Never pretend to be something you’re not.
  • If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

That’s the secret of #happiness, what an amazing way to describe “Purpose of Life”

A fighter sword is always sharp, and they do not sharpen it during a fight.
All preparation and training are done beforehand. They are prepared and ready. They have done what mattered, and this is essential to success.
Doing what matters is so important that it determines if you’ll succeed or spin your wheels and go nowhere. The world has a lot of people who are always busy doing something that is going to take them places, but they have no measurables to prove it.

It always seems like they’re not going anywhere, but they can’t wait to get there. The reason for this is that people mistake activity for work. For example, if you want to lose weight, what matters is that you work out and watch your calories. Reading many nutrition books, spending hours on YouTube picking up diet tips and joining a gym will not make you lose weight. What matters is the training and what you’re eating.

That’s all it is, and so plenty of people don’t get it. They overwhelm themselves with a lot of information without taking the right action.

Sharpen Your Sword

The five tips below will tell you precisely what you need to do to succeed:

  1. Three tasks a day
  2. Doing just enough to be a little uncomfortable
  3. Do the most challenging task first.
  4. Activity and work are two different things.
  5. Know when to take a break.

Three tasks a day

Don’t make a list of 345 things to get done. That’s enough to overwhelm anyone. Start with just three tasks, and it must be three critical tasks. If you’re trying to lose weight, the three tasks might be a 20-minute stamina workout, intermittent fasting for that day and sleeping early so that you get sufficient rest. All you need to do are do these three tasks. That’s it. If you do them repeatedly, you’ll reach your weight loss goal.

Don’t overload yourself with too much work, such as studying blood type diets, seeing if Moon is in alignment with Jupiter so that your chakras will be activated during your yoga session, etc. All silliness aside, focus on just three critical tasks per day.

Doing just enough to be a little uncomfortable.

It would be best if you were challenged to grow. If you’re trying to build a business online, that may mean writing 1,000 words of a blog a day. Once you get used to creating this much content with ease, you may wish to push yourself a little and aim for 1,500 words.

You want to be making gradual progress. Over time, you’ll be amazed at how it all sums up.

Make measurable progress in a reasonable time. The same applies to your fitness. If you can only run for 10 minutes on the treadmill, that’s ok. With each workout, try and increase the duration by 20 seconds. The difference will be a little uncomfortable, but it won’t be so bad that it scares you.

Do the most challenging task first.

It’s human nature to do everything else but the most challenging task. You might decide to rearrange your desk or sort out your folders on your computer when you need to analyze the statistics in your advertising account. The mind tries to escape the complex tasks. Your job is to do them first. Forget everything else and do the most challenging task at once. Focus on that. Once that is complete, it’ll be a weight off your chest, and all the remaining jobs will be completed within no time.

Activity and work are two different things.

As mentioned earlier, you must know the difference. Streamline your life so that you’re only doing what matters. Do not do unnecessary stuff. Eliminate all the trivial jobs that don’t contribute to your progress.

Then you’ll have more time to do what matters.

Know when to take a break

Music is the space between the notes. It will keep you focused and more energetic to complete the critical stuff. Take short breaks every time you feel a little tired. That’s all there is to it.

“Don’t tell me how busy you are. Please show me what you’ve gotten done. Words don’t matter. Results do.” – Larry Winget

The Importance of Focus

Bruce Lee once said, “Concentration is the root of all the higher abilities in man.” To succeed in life, you must have the ability to focus and concentrate. Focused hard work is the key to success. The best way to focus is to remove all distractions. But the focus is slightly more than just eliminating distractions. In our day and age, multitasking is a valuable skill.

In truth, you should avoid multitasking. It distracts you, and over time you’ll lose the ability to stay focused on any one thing for long. You’ll never see a warrior engaged in a sword fight and taking quick peeps at his Facebook wall to see what’s up. 100% focus on the battle in front of you. Aim to do just one task at a time and give it your best. You must know how long you can last while concentrating.

Some people can focus for an entire hour without getting exhausted, while others may get tired after just 20 minutes.

Do what suits you best. If you need a mental break, take it. Spend 5 minutes resting and come back and focus on your task again. Over time, your ‘stamina’ will increase. It’s crucial to develop focus if you want to be mentally strong. The victorious warrior is the average man with laser-like focus.

Do your dream? Yes, Of course. So, what is a dream?

A dream is an exciting representation of the future that stimulates your mind, will, and feelings, allowing you to do everything you can to achieve it.

“Dream is not that which you see while sleeping; it is something that does not let you sleep.”

― A P J Abdul Kalam

A dream is a picture and blueprint of a person’s purpose and potential.

Having said that, why do we fail in achieving those dreams. Sometimes we blame it on luck, fate, and destiny.

There is no such thing as being lucky; it’s your hard work and determination that meets the right opportunity at the right time with the right mindset.

The same is with destiny and fate; your thoughts will drive your emotions which will control your actions resulting in the outcome.

Thoughts drive your emotions, ‘what you think you become’ – Gautama Buddha.

Have you ever met someone who is a pessimist, saddest, and does not work hard is successful?

I have achieved my dreams using an elementary yet effective principle

“AIM with Strategy”

A for Awareness

I for Investment

M for Motivation

Coupled with the right strategy – you will succeed.

We are all unique, and the above principle is an outline or a guide that needs to be personalized for your dreams.

A – Awareness

As Individuals, we must be aware of our capabilities. For which we need to do a SWOT Analysis. (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threat). SWOT helps us to understand where we are and what we need to do. SWOT is a blueprint of an individual, which also is very useful in planning the strategy. Work on your weakness and play on your strength. Be aware of the opportunities and work out your tactics for the threat.

Be Aware of your resources (Friends, Family, and well-wishers)

What’s seen is Sold – Right.

Today’s we are in the era of social media; you need to make a place for yourself. Create your personal branding and ensure that you are visible. You have to bring yourself to the market and let the world know – who you are.

As it’s essential to be aware of yourself – you should also make a strategic effort to make the world aware of you. But don’t sell yourself always remember what Dr. Earl Taylor said: “Nobody likes to be sold, everybody likes to buy.”

So be valuable by adding value to the work you do or impacting others’ lives by the work you do, which will pave your path in the right direction.

In a nutshell

Awareness is inside – out

“First be aware of yourself and then go out and make the world aware of you” – Sagar Amlani.

I – Investment

Every business needs investment; treat your dreams as your business. Nurture them by investing in your strength and working on your weakness. You must invest your time, energy, and resources wisely.

Without investment, no business grows; in the same way, you need to make regular optimal investments at regular intervals for your dreams to be achieved.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help; an investment does not always relate to money. It can be an investment of your time and effort to master your skillset. It can be an investment of your thoughts to achieve the right actions—and investment of physical self & discipline to be healthy to achieve your dreams.

Invest in associations, peer groups, network with like-minded people, which will help you create the right environment to grow and achieve your dreams.

In a nutshell

Investment is essential.

“Treat your dreams like your business”- Sagar Amlani.

M – Motivation

When it comes to achieving our goals, we often
hear the importance of having a strong mindset. However, while mindset is
certainly important, it is not the only factor that determines our success. In
fact, without motivation, even the strongest mindset may not be enough to push
us towards our goals. Motivation
is a fundamental aspect of human behaviour and is essential for achieving
success, personally and professionally. Without motivation, it can be difficult
to take action towards our goals, overcome challenges and setbacks and stay
committed to our pursuits.

Motivation is the key to creating the desired mindset.

When you are motivated, you are more likely to invest in your personal and professional growth. You are also likely to take the steps necessary to develop the mindset you need to achieve your goals. Motivation helps you stay focussed, overcome setbacks and persist in the face of challenges. To develop a new mindset, you have to be aware of what you need, invest in it and motivate yourself to take action in that direction. This involves setting clear goals, creating a plan of action and finding ways to stay inspired throughout the process.

Motivation is a helpful factor in changing your mindset, but it can’t work alone. Changing your mindset also involves altering your fundamental beliefs about and attitudes — towards yourself, others and the world around you. This can require a significant amount of effort, dedication and persistence.

Now that you have the secret principle of AIM with strategy, I wish you success and the power to achieve your dreams.

Remember “Dream, Dream Dream

Dreams transform into thoughts

And thoughts result in action.”

Winner Mindset

Get The Mindset Of Winner (A Go-Getter)

The winning mindset is a fundamental factor in achieving success in life or business. This mindset is not created by chance or a flip of the coin. It serves as the foundation of success, conscious growth, wealth, and prosperity. If you want to create a positive mindset, you have to know how it works to help you become the winner.

The following are some essential information that you need to know about getting the winning mindset:

What is a Mindset?

Your mindset is who you are. It is composed of your beliefs, attitudes, feelings, and thoughts. Mindset is a simple idea that creates all the differences. It creates productivity and motivation in sports, education, and business. It is what successful athletes, business people, and educators have.

How to Achieve the Winning Mindset?

Believe in Yourself

You have to believe that you can do anything. You have to trust in your skills, knowledge, and capability when dealing with the challenges you will face as you tread the path towards success.

Make a Plan and Create a Strategy

Part of having a winning mindset is to create a plan that will serve as your guide in reaching your goals. On the other hand, having the right strategy can make such purposes easier to achieve. Most of the time, it requires an appropriate set of behaviours and a vision for the future. Without a holistic and flexible strategy, you are more likely to fall short in achieving what you want to accomplish in your life.

Identify Your Strengths and Weaknesses

People who have the mindset of a winner know how to use their skills and strengths to give them the will to win and enforce a positive attitude. They are also not afraid to fail and never give up. This is also explained in detail in my article AIM : 3 simple steps to achieve your dreams

Practice Self-Awareness

Top-performing people are aware of what they have, the ones that can motivate and help them achieve their goals. Being aware of what they are good at can provide them with a competitive edge over their competitors. They also know how to manage such things to prevent them from becoming their weaknesses.

Be Brave Enough to Face Your Challenges

If you want to win, you need to be brave enough to face your fears and challenges. You have to be ready to fight and take “No” for an answer. If you want help, never be afraid to ask for it, especially when such help greatly increases your chances of accomplishing your goals.

Take Care Of Your Body

One of the keys to having a happier living and healthy lifestyle is to know how to take care of your body. Whatever task you want to accomplish or any goal you want to achieve can be done easily if you are physically, mentally and emotionally healthy.

Your body and your mind are connected with each other. If you are living an unhealthy lifestyle, you are more likely to make unhealthy choices. Likewise, being active can help in improving your moods and lessen your chances of suffering from depression.

The following are some tips on how to can take care of your body for a much happier and healthier life:

  • Eat Healthy

Choosing fresh fruits and vegetables as well as lean meat and poultry are much better than eating junk foods, carbonated drinks, and fast foods. By eating healthy, you will receive the nutrients, vitamins, and energy that you need to combat the stress brought by a day’s work. As part of your effort to eat healthy, you should not forget to drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated and to remove toxins from your body.

  • Take Time to Relax

No matter how busy your schedule is, it is important that you take a break from the things that make you feel stressed and find time to clear your mind and relax. Whenever you’re at work, taking a break-even for just a few minutes can make a big difference in the way you handle your job.

  • Exercise

Exercising is an activity that will allow you to rejuvenate yourself. Exercising does not mean that you have to spend hours in the gym. There are certain activities that can help you become fit while still having fun. It is advisable that you engage in any type of exercise or physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day.

  • Get Enough Rest and Sleep

Resting and sleeping allow you to regain the energy that you have lost during the whole day’s work. Having enough sleep and rest also have an impact on your ability to function well, on your mood, and on your metabolism.

Practising good hygiene is another way to take care of your body. This will prevent you from experiencing different kinds of diseases. Good hygiene means that you are healthy inside and out. You need to take a bath regularly, clean your teeth, trim your nails, put on clean clothes, and more.

You wake up early morning trying to do your Pooja / Prayers /Yoga but your mind is elsewhere and before you know it, you’re done with it, without being mindful of it.

(A leaking bucket)

You’re very kind to outsiders/people in general and speak with them gently, but with your own family, you’re always harsh/rude. (A leaking bucket)

You honour and treat your guests well but when they leave, you gossip about them and talk about their flaws.

(A leaking bucket)

You try to read as many religious books, listen to Satsang /Keertan, participate in social services/ Sewa but you swear, insult, curse daily.

(A leaking bucket)

You help others but you’re doing it to gain something in return from them and not doing those acts of kindness selflessly.

(A leaking bucket)

You frequently advise/preach to others, but practice none yourself.

(A leaking bucket)

You slander other devout persons out of hatred/spite when your views do not meet one another.

(A leaking bucket)

You look down on others and feel more superior than them, judging their level of knowledge, based on external appearances

(A leaking bucket)

We struggle to fill our “lives”(the bucket) with “earnings” of religion and knowledge (the water), hoping it will retain inside but it is leaked by the many flaws (the holes) that we commit daily.

An excellent reminder for all, including myself, to try and patch these holes up so we may progress further on this beautiful path of life.
